Dr. Pepper Cream Soda
$4.99Pros
- The vanilla flavor is just right. Taste is an excellent balance between normal Dr. Pepper and cream soda
- I think the combined flavor is somehow better than both standard Dr. Pepper and most generic cream sodas
- The crispness/bite is good, on par with normal Dr. Pepper
- The cans have a cool design
Cons
- I don't know how limited this edition is. Could become unavailable at any time, similar to the great Dark Berry flavor
I’ll start this review with a caveat; I already love Dr. Pepper. I also generally like all of the major brands, including Coke, Pepsi, and the aforementioned Doctor. Dr. Pepper occasionally releases limited edition flavors, which in my experience are usually really excellent. One of the recent ones, Dark Berry Dr. Pepper, was absolutely incredible. I’m sort of sad that one is gone now.
Recently, they released Dr. Pepper Cream Soda, so naturally I had to give that one a try. Guess what? It’s really excellent, so now I have to start hoarding it because I’m afraid it’s going to be gone soon like Dark Berry. It does taste like Dr. Pepper as a baseline flavor, so if you don’t like the regular version, this probably won’t win you over. But there is a really nice cream soda taste that comes through too; the balance between the flavors is really well done. I’ve previously tried the Cherry Vanilla flavor, but in my opinion, this is a better vanilla implementation.
When evaluating a soda, one aspect that is really important to me is that crispness and bite factor. A good way to compare this is orange soda; drink an Orange Crush, then immediately try a Sunkist. A freshly opened Sunkist is still flatter and with less bite that a Crush. That crispness is one of the things I love about Dr. Pepper. It also comes through with the Cream Soda variety, which is not always true with regular cream sodas. So in a real way, from my perspective, the Dr. Pepper Cream Soda beats a lot of basic cream sodas out in that category because it’s got the bite factor.
Anyhow, the verdict is – yes, Dr. Pepper Cream Soda is fantastic. I really hope they keep this flavor going long term. (P.S.: Please Dr. Pepper, bring back Dark Berry).
Even though I’ve provided Amazon links, I would recommend just buying this at a grocery store. Amazon can be useful in this case if you want to check out reviews and so forth, but I haven’t seen a good price yet there. In grocery stores, Dr. Pepper Cream Soda is the same price as every other soda.
Manufacturer Description:
